About Us

Hull Design Online, or HullDO, showcases the developments in web design and development. My hometown is Hull, which is where the basis of the name for this website came from. It is situated in the north east of England, within the UK.

I'm Paul and I'm the main guy on here. I'm responsible for making sure everything works. Most of the skills in web design I've learnt through researching, practicing and passing on the knowledge; sharing is good! I like to think I'm good at what I do and I hope you think that too. What is Hull Design Online's mission statement?

This is my area of the internet for publishing articles, tutorials and showing off what I'm capable of doing in the world of web design. Originally started in July 2009, the main aim of the website is to allow you be able to keep up with the latest news and tips. The reason for abbreviating the website name to HullDO is because of the way the name still becomes readable and distinctive. I like it, do you?

Skills

So, my skill set at the minute consists of being able to develop full applications to websites that function according to a given design specification. A full list of these skills can be seen below:

  • XHTML and HTML 5
  • CSS 2.1 and CSS 3
  • JavaScript
  • jQuery (a JavaScript framework)
  • PHP and mySQL
  • Creative software technologies; Adobe Photoshop is the industry leader

Further to the design skills, I'm also able to fully manage and maintain servers - at the minute, HullDO runs on a Linux setup - to the highest of standard, making sure that websites running on these servers are optimised to make full use of caching techniques.
